Honorable Chiefing in Travian

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

What is Chiefing in Travian?

When you’re in a top alliance, the entire map is your sandbox. There

are far more mid-level players that you can manipulate than you’ll ever know what to do with.

Good news for that, since the preferred method of expansion in the game is to steal entire villages. This is known as “chiefing” … which as my word processor advises me all the time: is a word that doesn’t exist!

The process is quite simple. You need to:

  • Bring your academy to level 20
  • Make sure there is an available slot for expansion in your village
  • Research “senator/chief” in your academy
  • Build one in your residence/palace.

Expensive? Yes!

Fun? You’d better believe it.

The only problem with the process is if you chief that belongs to your alliances’ farm list, once you get the village you’re going to continue getting farmed. There are few things that can be done to make the process an easy one.

1. Don’t defend the village

Simple! Once you get the village, don’t put troops in it. Your “friend” in the travian alliance are more than likely unaware of your chiefing and are still raiding the village because it’s on their farm list.

By removing your troops from the village you give them time to remove the village from their farm list once you have sent out a mass message to the alliance asking them to do so.

2. Make a Nice Travian In-Game Message

There is nothing more annoying than someone sending you a message with coordinates, and then you have to:

  1. remember them…
  2. type them into the map screen

This 2-Step process is harrowing, especially if you’re using an iPad/iPhone to play the game. I see this time and time again. Just last night:

chiefing

How the hell am I going to remember those coordinates if I’m talking on the phone while sitting on the bus on the way home from work? I won’t…. and so playing Travian becomes something that requires excessive mental energy to play… well, not Travian’s fault. It’s the sender who sent the coordinates.

A better way is to link the village by inputting the coordinates in the message so that when someone gets your mass message, all they have to do is click on the “in message hyperlink” and check to see if your village is on their farm list:

chiefing message

That blurred green in the message is actually I hyperlink.

Much easier :-)

Needs Based Upgrading in Travian

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

Needs based upgrading in Travian is about leveraging time and your immediate needs so that you can stretch your resources as far as possible. One of the most common problems in Travian is that every player needs an unequivalent amount of resources to across the four categories to upgrade buildings, fields, and build troops.

For example, a Gaul player needs more clay than iron. So if they log into their account in the morning and build as many TTs as possible they will have < 1200 clay and a lot of iron left. At this point there is very little the player can do in this village except maybe trade some iron for clay in the marketplace or use gold to the NPC tool.

Anti Needs Based Upgrades

One upgrade that addresses this needs based resource problem is the main building. needs main buildingAs you can see in the picture on the right, the amount of resources in one category is very similar to the others. Of course crop is always lower since the building upgrade costs hourly production of crop as well. Maybe this isn’t the reason and I’m just really dumb because I don’t know the real reason… but this is the best conclusion I can make.

needs small partyAnother anti-needs based “build” is a small party. I’m a big time party-er in Travian. If I partied in real life as much as I do in Travian I would have no job, be delusional about life and totally suck in Travian. Fortunately the resource structure of the small party is fairly equal across the wood/clay/iron resource cost.

As an aside, I kind of feel like the iron resource in Travian needs to be replaced with alcohol. It just makes more sense that alcohol would make a better party than iron. And it kind of applies to the other upgrades as well…

… training a soldier cannot be done until he takes his first class of mead. Right?

… settling a new village could not ever be done without drinking a lot of alcohol… I think. Anyway…

The Way of the Needs – Barracks

The best way to use a needs – based strategy for building and upgrades is by looking at how you are using up time. I have 2 examples.

First, we have the barracks. Umm, here is a picture for you:

needs barracksMy barracks is currently at level 15. I have the resources to upgrade it (thanks to the NPC tool and my rich parents) to level 16 which would train troops faster. But look at my queue.

Needs based upgrading would ask the question: “Am I going to waste the extra resources spent on the upgrade by not training soldiers in my barracks for a few hours each day?”

A player who answers “Yes” to this question needs to focus their resources (thank god for feeder villages and farms!) on building up a consistent queue of phallies in the barracks. It’s like running taking up a new sport such as squash and purchasing a $1,500 racket. The question that goes with that racket is: “Will I be playing/practicing squash every day?” or “Do I have sufficient experience with other squash rackets to be able to appreciate the difference this one will make?” or “Am I experienced enough to justify purchasing this racket?” Whatever the question is… it probably doesn’t justify the “upgrade”, much like the barracks upgrade.

Oh Shit!

Ok guys, I have to head out for an emergency (I’m human after all…) will finish this post tomorrow. But you’re getting the point, I’m sure.

Travian Alliances – The Power of Reinforcements

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

So as many of you know, my USX Gaul account is a peaceful… relaxing account… I make sure I raid the roster and scout the roster every now and then to make sure anyone who every could rise to power in my area… doesn’t. To learn more about how this process works, read about it here.

The Invitation

A few weeks ago, a player asked if I would join their alliance. Basically they want reinforcements that have more than 1 village. Haha. Since I’m just a peasant, as you can see in the picture on the right, I said yes of course!travian reinforcements

And so our interesting relationship has begun with an incident involving reinforcements to be sent to a “friend” in need. Since I’m playing Travian on my own, I don’t have much time to respond to messages… or participate in the alliance…

The Reinforcements Dilemma (Reins)

Ok, I do have time to participate, but I don’t want to. Because a few days ago I got the following message:

My friend,
I have given you the power of defense admiral.Hope you justify your position.

Okay… whatever that means. I’m the reinforcement general now. Just great.

Wasn’t too sure how I was going to justify it, until a “call for sending reinforcements” a fellow alliance member came. Now before you ever send your precious troops to help out a “player in need”, first ask yourself the question: Does this player want my help?

Because when I looked at the player’s profile I discovered 3 things:

  1. He Was Being Farmed
  2. The farmer was getting a lot of resources
  3. Players Sent Reinforcements

1. He Was Being Farmed

I don’t have a single Travian friend who gets farmed consistently. Sure, one raid here, one raid there… it’s part of the game. That’s the way it works. But consistent farming doesn’t happen because attacks don’t get a single resource of mine. Ever.

Don’t protect farms. Farm them.

2. The Farmer Raided Over 50K Resources

This was the part that really got me worried. Other members of the alliance were sending troops to a player, but the player wasn’t even spending down his own resources to build more troops.

IT TAKES 3 clicks!!! Yeah, it’s not like building troops is so time intensive. Enter barracks… click brackets… click train.

3. Players Sent Reinforcements (Reins)

Why would you send troops to a farm? The person who is being farmed is basically sending the message that: “I don’t want to play Travian more than 1hr/day” and “if you send troops to my village I won’t feed them (because the resource will probably be raided).

I can’t want to find out what happens with the next MM they send out… this one was a blast. I replied to the MM requesting reins with what was wrong with their request.

The response I got:

reinforcements travian

Groan. Could have included a little bit about, “pull back and send forth offensive troops” but oh well.

Travian Catapult Attacks: How NOT to Do it

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

So I have a few accounts, one of them is on USX. I’m not doing really well, but I’m the only person on that travian account… no duals. It’s like, my “private account”… actually more like a test account, to see if playing Gaul is actually fun.

Turns out, the answer to this is: it depends, because…

Last night, I made a mistake (who doesn’t?): I sent an attack to a village without faking all of the other villages belonging to that player and in so doing, get to say “bye bye” to a good chunk of my farming resources:catapult attacksSo the lesson here is that when you’re attacking someone who has a few villages, it’s always best to:

  • Fake catapult attack all the other villages
  • Make sure all the fake catapult attacks arrive at the same time
  • Probably a good idea to have scouted all the villages as well (unless you’re planning on sending the catapult clearing wave to a village you did not scout)

The attack is a little bit interesting since I did send a catapult clearing wave to get rid of the troops that were in the village… but my goal, at least initially was to make a farm out of the village.. not to say “goodbye” almost 1600 troops. Oh well.

I’m not sure why, but this season of USX has been extremely boring… maybe because I’ve gone out on my own, or maybe because there are less than 4000 players on the server. Travian is just not quite as popular as it used to be, and I think I know why… but that’s subject for another blog post.

Catapults always make things a little more interesting… only in this case I didn’t use them!

New Mission: Dispensing Actual Travian Knowledge

New Blogger – New Travian Knowledge

Hey everyone,

Elvis here. We’re in the process of changing the way this blog works. After reading the book “Free” by Chris Anderson, it’s become clear to me that the better way to run a blog is give away information and sell advertising.

Now with that said, the information being given away needs to be high quality. This blog has been the journey of a Travian gamer, Erika. Problem is, Erika is pregnant… Okay, it’s not really a problem, but she doesn’t have time to write on the blog anymore.

So I guess I’ll be writing on it now :)

I will try my best to keep the travian knowledge dispensing regular, daily if possible (Mon-Fri). Of course the good news about regular content.

A Few Things About Me

I’m an avid reader in the advertising world. I play on COMX and USX with the occasional Something-X depending on where my dual friends are playing.

I work as an affiliate manager for a popular online media company by day, and play Travian during my coffee breaks and evenings.

I also run a blog related to Skype Business Management which you can find here.

In order to keep my body lean and my mind in ship shape I workout 1-3x per week at the gym, and I play squash 2-4x per week as well.

Travian Farming: Looting Up Resources From Other Players

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

travian farming

Travian Farming

For a lot of players, farming is one of the most effective way of getting resources. Sometimes, you just can’t depend on your own resources so you would have to find other sources for wood, crop, clay and iron. Travian farming is when you raid villages, usually smaller than you to loot their resources. In Travian, you can’t just go on farming without a certain strategy. Otherwise, you’ll end up meeting an enemy you wouldn’t want to be making.

We will look over some strategies on how to farm and how to find a village to farm. Raiding villages for resources is necessary at times especially when you want to speed up progress. It will take time though to master the art of raiding but with experience, I’m pretty sure you’ll get there.

Strategies on How To Farm

travian farmingNow, one of the very first things you have to do when you go on Travian farming is to look for the village to raid. Best way to start is to look for a village with a population of 2. Villages with a population of 2 usually have no defenses, not even a wall. So to start, you would want to attack villages like that. Although, small villages will also come with small reaps. That’s okay. Start small in Travian farming and then work your way up to bigger villages as you progress as well.

Villages with a population of let’s say less than a hundred, like maybe 40 or 50, these guys are most probably farms if the rest of the neighboring villages already have more than a hundred population. Trick in picking a village to farm is to look for the villages that are behind in progress. So checking for their population and comparing them with the rest of the neighboring villages can be a way to choose a village to farm. Also, villages with small populations tend to have less or zero troops at all. They make excellent farms and you would want to target them.

One tip I can give though is that when you’re not yet ready to farm a village, you can raid oases but do not raid oases with nature troops. Usually, you don’t get a lot of resources from oases and having all of your troops killed for less resources is really not worth it. You can raid an oases though if you bring your hero along but having the hero equipped with cages. Otherwise, just don’t because it’s a waste of time, waste of troops and resources you get will not be that much. Attack an oases that has no nature troops.

Take note though that these are not always applicable. There can be villages with more than a hundred population but could be abandoned or for whatsoever reason has really poor defenses. You can raid them. Travian farming can be a lot of work but it all really pays off when you do it right. Make sure you explore more villages but take extra caution if you’re doubtful. If ever you are doubtful, send scouts. That’s always the most effective way to check if a village has troops or a good defense. Let your scouts be like a “checker” to check if a village can be farmed or not.

Protecting Yourself

You may be farming others but these other players can fight back. Always remember that. They might be small but some can actually take the time to build troops and get back at you. Or some may be wiser than you thought. For big villages, do not scout them. These big villages probably has scouts on their villages so if you scout them, they will know that you’re targeting them. You might just make an enemy. Always make sure there are scouts in your village. Send troops to scout other villages but always make sure you have scouts left in the village. Don’t send them all out.

Before you begin your Travian farming, make sure you have build up defenses. When you start Travian farming, you will never know that you have already made an enemy and it may come as a surprise. So before jumping in to Travian farming, make sure you will be able to defend yourself if ever some players decide to attack you back. Protect your village, protect your resources and make sure you have defenses. It’s the dumbest thing to do to jump in to Travian farming without setting up defenses.

Travian Auctions: Strategy Guide On Selling Items

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

travian auctions

Travian Items

During adventures, your hero could come home bringing a bunch of stuff. It can be resources, silver, items or troops. Now, in the long run when you continually send your hero in adventures (which you must), your hero can collect a bunch of items and sometimes, you can get 2 or more of the same item. A lot of these things can be very useful in a large number like for example, ointments. You may want to keep ointments with you as it can help boost your hero’s health so you don’t have to worry much about him dying on adventures.

There are some items that might no longer come in handy for you or you could just have extra of them. What do you do? You sell them. Items could be sold at Travian auctions and you can make silver from them. It might be easy to think that you just simply put an item on sale and then earn silver. But there is a strategy that you can follow to make sure that you earn the most silver in Travian auctions.

Travian Auctions – Selling Strategies

Travian auctions

This is the Travian auctions. This is where you can buy and sell items. There are a lot of items that you can get here but don’t expect the best items to be easily found. There are certain items that are rarely on sale but this is the best and only place you can get items that you need. Let’s face it, in adventures, you really can’t tell when you’re going to get the item you want or if you’ll ever get it. But in Travian auctions, you can get the item you need. You just have to bid on it and make sure you won the bidding.

Now, if you are to sell an item. There are certain things you need to keep in mind. First, before selling the item, check for the same available item in the Travian auctions. See how much it is priced. Don’t immediately judge when you see it. Wait for the auction to finish to see how much the item can increase it’s price. If the item in Travian auctions didn’t go high in the last 24 hours (shorter on speed servers), don’t sell your item yet. It’s not the right time since it’s not very much valued. Check and see when the price of a certain item goes up before selling it.

Another consideration you can take in is the number of players online. When you post the item, you want to get as much bids as possible. The lesser the bids, the lower the increase in the price of your item. But if there are many players online, then you know you have the chance of getting more bids. Check the Statistics and go to General. This is where you will see the number of players online.

Travian auctions

Along with this, you want to make sure your timing is correct. If for example you’re in a specific server and you know that during a specific time of the day, more players are online. For example, people are online during the time after work or after school. You would want to take that time but still, check statistics.

Please take note, during the beginning of the server, a lot of items are sold for high prices. Even cages and ointments sell for high prices in Travian auctions during the beginning of the game because everyone would want to have them. But later on in mid game, prices of these items in Travian auctions start to depreciate. There are items that will remain expensive though even though near end of the game like for example, scrolls. These are usually always high. Another thing is horses but they are RARELY found in Travian auctions. Nobody sells them. If you do acquire them, I would also discourage you from selling them even if you would have 2 horses. You will want them so keep them. Bandages and small bandages are some examples of items that would almost value for nothing in Travian auctions.

Earn More Silver With The Right Strategy

So these are some tips on selling your items in Travian auctions. Bottom line, all it takes is the right timing. Once you sold an item in the right time and demand is high, you’ll make the most of it.

Wishing everybody luck and comment if you’ve tried this strategy.

Winner Mindset: How top players make it

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

winner mindset

Introduction

A lot of new players find struggle in getting the hang of the Travian game. I remember when I first started out when I had no idea what was going on. I didn’t know what would happen if I do this or if I do that. It really takes time to learn although for some, it may come as a piece of cake. But if you’re one who is willing to change ways and perform at your best, then there are some things you have to deal with about your mindset. A winner mindset will get you going and these tips I’m going to give you will help you get on the game.

I know these because I have experienced them. It is not easy to be a beginner in a game because you know there are a lot of experts that could bring you down. It’s really a tough battle but with the right strategy and the right mindset, you can make your way to the top.

winner mindsetWinner Mindset – Tips on How To Gain Momentum

  1. Don’t say, “I’m still new and I’m just learning.” You’ve been playing for a month or two already and yet you still say this? Even at the start of your game, don’t say that. Yes you’re new but you need the winner mindset to make things happen. Saying that you’re still new and you’re just learning will bar you from seeking expert techniques. You’re constantly thinking that you’re a newbie so tendency is that you’ll stick to the beginner’s tips. It’s good to learn basic strategies but you can’t stay in them forever. It might be hard for you at first to understand expert techniques but if you won’t push it, then you will not progress.
  2. Don’t say, “I wish there won’t be so much raids.” Reality check: Like it or not, there will be raids. You can’t just hope and pray that raids won’t come. Do something that will make raids in your village unsuccessful. A winner mindset will always tell you to act on something instead of wishing it’s not there. The raids will come and they will keep on coming if they’re always getting resources from you. You have to defend yourself against them. Work on your defense and work on your crannies. Make sure you have troops. Protect your village, most especially your resources, from the enemies.
  3. Don’t say, “My village can’t develop because of the constant farming.” This is in continuation to the previous one. Again, it’s a crime to not build up defenses. If you won’t defend yourself, enemies will continue coming. But just because they continue coming, doesn’t mean you’ll just give up. What do you want to do? Start a new server all over again? And if you’re again being farmed? Will you just stop and then start over again? Do you really want to stick to a cycle like that? Someone who is up for the win don’t think that way. A winner mindset will always tell you to figure things out. Find a way to solve the problem, not avoid it.
  4. Don’t say, “I still don’t understand that strategy so I’ll just not mind it for now.” If you think like this, you’re the problem, not the game. The game is not difficult, you’re just making it hard for you. You have to understand how things work. The better you know the game, the better you can play. You can’t just wait for a miracle. This is a strategy game, you have to figure out a strategy. Devise one if you must and if you can. Saying that you will skip it will definitely cost you a lot of time and it will make you lose progress. By the time you’re ready to learn it, you’re already way behind.
  5. Don’t message a player to stop attacking you. Okay, maybe for some, this is effective. But please, begging for mercy from the enemy? That is just ridiculous. Someone with a winner mindset definitely knows to have some pride. It’s so small of you to ask the enemy to stop attacking instead of working on defending yourself from them. And then what? You’ll offer to give resources in exchange for not attacking you? Yes, you’re not being farmed. You’re a slave. What if you can’t send anymore resources and the enemy attacks you, what would you do then?

winner mindsetBe The Winner

No matter how hard it can get, remember to keep in track of your actions. Through this, you will learn. By learning, you can improve. Don’t settle and be content by being just a player. You would want to be so much more. Only then can you say that you have truly enjoyed playing.

Fixing My Village: The Mistakes Done and Their Solutions

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

mistakes done

Fixing My Village

There have been a lot of things in the past that has caused me lots of problem in Travian. If you have been following this blog, you would know the problems I have faced such as the crop shortage problem, the constant raids, and even the stalker problems which brought destructive attacks in my village. The economy of my Travian was also at possibly it’s worst state ever which caused problem after problem after problem. I know these are all results of crucial mistakes done and I am to blame for them

I do admit, I made poor decisions. Hey, I’m not much of an expert yet but I am trying my best to learn the game and understand it well. This way, I can make sure that I’m on the right track and to be honest, I have never gone this far ever before. So I’m actually proud of the things that I have achieved. If ever I start a new server over again, I’m pretty sure my progress will be faster since I have learned a lot from my experiences in this server.

But now, I’m on the process of getting my village back on track. The mistakes done won’t hold me back from getting my village back to a good condition. The raids have cooled down, I have dealt with the stalker and my resources are well protected with my 3 crannies so my worries about raids are no longer that scary.

Step by Step Process – Mistakes Done and Solutionsmistakes done

Here, I’d outline the mistakes that I have made and the solution that must be done to get things back on track. I’m hoping that this mistake list will help you guys not make the same mistakes I’ve done.

  • Keeping resource fields behind – This mistake done is one mortal sin if you ask me and trust me, it’s one you wouldn’t want to make. You can take the tip I gave you yesterday which I am now doing.  I’m on the process of applying it and my resource fields are now looking good.
  • Not investing on defenses – Of all of the mistakes done, this is one of the biggest. Beginners and “small time” players are the usual targets of raids. They are the ones who usually end up as farms. So as early as the beginner’s protection period, invest your time and resources of building up defenses. Protect your resources as much as possible. When you’re continuously raided and the enemy raids are successful, they will see that you have poor defenses and you can be sure that with the loots they can take from you, they will keep coming back. Once they do, it will be very difficult for you to get back up since you will no longer have the resources you need to build up resources. In other words, don’t wait for things to be too late before you start to realize what should be done.
  • Making enemies – If you’re a player who is still not capable of building an army in a short period of time, DO NOT invest a lot of time to build a big army and attack a big player. As tempting as it can get, try to avoid revenge on a player you know can create a big army in just a day or two while it takes you more than a week to top his troops. A mistake done like this is a very bad decision and you will end up making an unnecessary enemy. Not unless you are capable of keeping those troops in great number each day, don’t piss off a big player. You will be defeated before you can even counter his attacks.
  • Staying idle – Sometimes when you see that you have done a lot already in your account, you could feel content with the progress you’ve made which in turn causes you to take time to chill and relax. It can be very tempting but remember, the big players are not stopping and so should you. You may think you’re good enough but you’re not. As long as there is room for improvement and there can still be upgrades to be done, do it. When there’s nothing else you can upgrade in the village, then build a second one. Never let yourself be idle. You may relax now but once you’ve gained frequent raiders, you may not be able to relax anymore. Tendency, you’ll just give up hope. Mistake done like this could be irreversible so as early as you can, solve it!

Learn Your Way Through

It’s natural to make mistakes, we’re not perfect after all. But, be sure that you take action immediately. There are mistakes done that if you dwell in can be beyond repair. Do your best and learn your way through the game. There will always be a way to make things better. You just have to find it, solve the problem, get better.
