Travian Alliances – The Power of Reinforcements

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

So as many of you know, my USX Gaul account is a peaceful… relaxing account… I make sure I raid the roster and scout the roster every now and then to make sure anyone who every could rise to power in my area… doesn’t. To learn more about how this process works, read about it here.

The Invitation

A few weeks ago, a player asked if I would join their alliance. Basically they want reinforcements that have more than 1 village. Haha. Since I’m just a peasant, as you can see in the picture on the right, I said yes of course!travian reinforcements

And so our interesting relationship has begun with an incident involving reinforcements to be sent to a “friend” in need. Since I’m playing Travian on my own, I don’t have much time to respond to messages… or participate in the alliance…

The Reinforcements Dilemma (Reins)

Ok, I do have time to participate, but I don’t want to. Because a few days ago I got the following message:

My friend,
I have given you the power of defense admiral.Hope you justify your position.

Okay… whatever that means. I’m the reinforcement general now. Just great.

Wasn’t too sure how I was going to justify it, until a “call for sending reinforcements” a fellow alliance member came. Now before you ever send your precious troops to help out a “player in need”, first ask yourself the question: Does this player want my help?

Because when I looked at the player’s profile I discovered 3 things:

  1. He Was Being Farmed
  2. The farmer was getting a lot of resources
  3. Players Sent Reinforcements

1. He Was Being Farmed

I don’t have a single Travian friend who gets farmed consistently. Sure, one raid here, one raid there… it’s part of the game. That’s the way it works. But consistent farming doesn’t happen because attacks don’t get a single resource of mine. Ever.

Don’t protect farms. Farm them.

2. The Farmer Raided Over 50K Resources

This was the part that really got me worried. Other members of the alliance were sending troops to a player, but the player wasn’t even spending down his own resources to build more troops.

IT TAKES 3 clicks!!! Yeah, it’s not like building troops is so time intensive. Enter barracks… click brackets… click train.

3. Players Sent Reinforcements (Reins)

Why would you send troops to a farm? The person who is being farmed is basically sending the message that: “I don’t want to play Travian more than 1hr/day” and “if you send troops to my village I won’t feed them (because the resource will probably be raided).

I can’t want to find out what happens with the next MM they send out… this one was a blast. I replied to the MM requesting reins with what was wrong with their request.

The response I got:

reinforcements travian

Groan. Could have included a little bit about, “pull back and send forth offensive troops” but oh well.

New Blogger – New Travian Knowledge

Hey everyone,

Elvis here. We’re in the process of changing the way this blog works. After reading the book “Free” by Chris Anderson, it’s become clear to me that the better way to run a blog is give away information and sell advertising.

Now with that said, the information being given away needs to be high quality. This blog has been the journey of a Travian gamer, Erika. Problem is, Erika is pregnant… Okay, it’s not really a problem, but she doesn’t have time to write on the blog anymore.

So I guess I’ll be writing on it now :)

I will try my best to keep the travian knowledge dispensing regular, daily if possible (Mon-Fri). Of course the good news about regular content.

A Few Things About Me

I’m an avid reader in the advertising world. I play on COMX and USX with the occasional Something-X depending on where my dual friends are playing.

I work as an affiliate manager for a popular online media company by day, and play Travian during my coffee breaks and evenings.

I also run a blog related to Skype Business Management which you can find here.

In order to keep my body lean and my mind in ship shape I workout 1-3x per week at the gym, and I play squash 2-4x per week as well.

How Not To “Fake (FAIL) it Till You Make it” in Travian with Oasis (Bonus: And a Pro-Tip)

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

Hey travian gamers, since I don’t post on the weekends Elvis has asked that I introduce him so he can share some love with the blog. You can read all about him here.

The following is a post by Elvis…

My Travianistic Morning – Just Out of Bed!

No matter how bad of a night’s sleep I get, the morning always excited me because it’s that time of day that I get to log into my Travian account and spend resources on anything I want. I can:

  1. Build TONS of troops
  2. Host a Party
  3. Level up my Residence

Sometimes I can do all three of these.

First I host a party, then I build troops, but I don’t use all my resources, then I level up my residence or transfer resources to another village to do the same.

The Travian Oasis Fail – What Not To Do

But today, was different, as I was looking for a good oasis to use up those (17x) cages I just plundered with my hero, I saw this:

oasis

As you can see, here we have an oasis that hasn’t been occupied for some time, as it’s inhabited by animals (literally). That’s fine. But in the oasis’ reports section there are 3 attacks in the same minute… that have red swords! Each of these attacks looks like this:

go-oasis-failWhat is the point of faking an oasis that is owned by nature?

I have no idea but I’m hoping someone is going to slap me across the face and tell me to wake up and realize what is happening in this oasis is indeed normal… because I have no idea.

Going on to the second part of this post…

How to Know You’re Doing Things Right in Travian

Right, so there are a few litmus tests that you can do to see if you are on the right track with your quest to avoid getting raided. Put differently, here is how you know it’s time to demolish your crannies so you can build a second warehouse or granary:

– If when you login each morning there are no “during the night” attacks on your village.

I’m not referring to a random raid where someone plunders your village with 1000 ECs sent without first scouting. I’m talking about a few raids where you’re losing resources and other players think they can raid you. That’s the problem: They know they can get away with it.

Travian is all about being the bully that bullies all the other players. Of course you don’t want to make a personal enemy out of an egotistical account ranked #13 who feels its their mission to “teach you a lesson” but you do want to be raiding very regularly.

I’m Gaul, and I have:

  • 4 Farm lists. I think everyone on the map that is smaller than me, is on that farm list.
  • 4 Farm lists that get used at least 3x each every day.

This is the idea… use your farm lists every day. This accomplishes 2 things:

  1. Of course you get more resources. But more importantly,
  2. You make it very difficult for players in your SW/SE/NW/NE area to grow into a formidable threat.

That #2 is really important. Don’t worry about losing a few TTs when you raid someone.. that’s not the point. The point is you’re destroying their pitiful parties of troops so that they don’t grow into a large force that is out of your control and poses an actual threat.

Adventurous Travian Dual “Couples”

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

home-slider-trivianEvery year thousands of teams set out on the journey to play Travian on one of the speed servers. For some, it is the best and most reward journey they ever go on. But for others, getting along with sitters and duals is a constant source of contention.

So what is the difference between players that make it to the top 10 and duals that can’t break the 100 ranks and end up hating each other?

The stresses with playing Travian are inevitable – the cost of gold, the first few days, the seemingly never ending troops to build and move around. This is all to be expected since everyone starts their Travian account from zero and builds it up.

To help you better understand and navigate the process of dealing the duals and keeping each other organized, I have made a list of the top 3 “dual relationship” strategies that have worked for me.

BUILD A STRESS MANAGEMENT PLAN

Your ability to manage the stress that comes with playing Travian is more important the more duals are playing on the account. When someone experienced a stressful moment, due to too many attacks coming in or losing too many villages… or even playing the game takes too much time out of their personal life, they tend to get dramatic and want to quit.

This is why you and your duals need to develop a stress management plan that includes organization and delegation so that everyone knows what they have to do on the account. Making duals responsible for various activities is a good way to achieve this. Creating a “daily account management routine” is another great way to accomplish this.

It may also be a good idea for duals to take time off from playing Travian. Rather than rotating through 4 people on the account, why not give one person a 4-day vacation so they can come back refreshed? This method often works very well with duals who are from an older audience and who have personal lives outside of Travian (work, kids, relationships, etc.)

LET TRAVIAN OFF TIME, BE TRAVIAN OFF TIME

Spending time away from Travian should be taken for what it is. It should not be a time when you are logging into the game and checking your villages one last time before going to bed.

Discussing travian related issues or secretly playing the game when your spouse/partner is around is a great way to agitate them and make them think that you “love travian more than you love” them.

When you play travian with your duals, it’s also easy to turn your bedroom and personal life into an extension of the game. Just remember that as harmless as this may seem, it actually can wreak havoc on the intimacy of your relationships outside of Travian.

KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL

When you play Travian with your duals, it’s easy to fall into the trap of treating your duals like your subordinates. But just because you are playing an account together as a team doesn’t mean that you have to be the boss and bitch everyone around. Travian is, after all, all about teamwork.

Keep in mind that you are running a large account that requires someone working on it 24/7. You can keep things going smoothly with your duals by:

  • Saying “please” and “thank you”
  • Not blaming your dual when something goes wrong on the account.
  • If you are talking over the phone, don’t interrupt!
  • Be mindful of your language, don’t swear too much
  • Give your undivided attention to your duals when you are creating a strategy

Keeping your relationship with your duals professional does not need to mean that you are being cold
and distant toward them. It simply means being mindful of what you are saying/chatting. By treating
your duals with respect, you will create a gaming environment that is more fun and healthier for everyone.

Travian Update: Village Raids and Gaul Trapper

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

Talk about perfect timing. It seems like events don’t want me to become an offensive player. I did talk about finally doing attacks in my article yesterday. It was not mean to be as a raid  arrived at the perfect time and got all my troops killed. So you can expect that the 4 Phalanxes that I trained yesterday all died.

trav

To make things worse, my hero died (again!). Her health was on full when I sent her on a dangerous adventure so I don’t know what went wrong. Maybe it was too much for my hero. I guess I should cease for the moment in sending my hero on dangerous adventures. Not until I boost her experience level a bit, only then will I resume on sending her back. It’s costing me much on the resources already on reviving her. It’s not cheap, you know.

Today, I’m not upgrading anything in my village. I spent all of them in training troops and I was able to train 7. I would need 3 more and then I can try doing an attack. My trapper is also ready. I created 3 traps to set up in my village. It’s my first time using it so I’ll try to see if it works effectively in trapping enemies.

I have been checking out more articles from Dan T. Massicotte and I found one interesting. It’s an article about raiding players. I guess if you want to be an offensive player, the Teutons is the best tribe of choice. Their troops are cheap to train and are fast moving. They can also carry more load. They are really good in terms of raiding. Although you can pretty much do the same with other tribes but there are just others who have the edge.

I have to use the advantage my tribe has. It’s the most effective way of playing for me. I just want to know if I can use the trapped enemies for my own. I still have to search on that. Though, it would be nice if I can torture them. Just kidding… …or not.

Anyway, I will keep update on the progress I’m making. I’ll also let you guys know how the trapper worked for me. I have the feeling that upgrading my trapper and be able to effectively use it will help me reduce the number of raids coming into my village. I will no longer be a farm. Oh, this is great! This is absolutely exciting. I can’t wait to see how my enemies will slowly decrease in number since they would be trapped in my village. Now, I’m really glad I went for Gauls. This is very handy and I can finally get rid of farmers. They will so regret being my enemy.

The Trick to Building Fast

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

Time is something that needs to be managed well in Travian. I learned that if you’re not wise in dealing with the time you have, you’ll be wasting so much of it. When instead of being able to progress further already, it will be a very slow progress if you don’t know how to handle your time well.

The trick to saving your time in building almost anything is quite simple, actually. All you have to do is upgrade your main building first. Once it reaches level 20, building anything will be faster. It’s an important time-saving trick in Travian and it’s pretty clever.

Oh! So you have a lot of time anyway and you’re not rushing but remember, if you improve slowly, during your long process, other players can take advantage of you. Good luck once you become a farm for other players. You’ll lose not only time but even resources. You really don’t want that to happen, right? So know your priorities.

Remember, Travian is a strategy game. It’s a matter of clever actions and wise decisions.
