The Player who Gave me his USX Account

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

So last week I had an interesting experience… a nearby player who I never raided nor attacked sent me a message saying:

“You win. I’m sick of playing. What village do you want me to add my troops? I’ll let you farm all my villages as well.”

How nice. Turns out the player had about 6000 phalanx and 2000 TTs among other troops. That’s a lot of troops to generate from 3 villages. Just as well. I needed a nice amount of TTs to sacrifice on a nearby village that I wanted to chief.

And so I had him set me as sitter and I just took over the account.

Very cool!

Honorable Chiefing in Travian

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

What is Chiefing in Travian?

When you’re in a top alliance, the entire map is your sandbox. There

are far more mid-level players that you can manipulate than you’ll ever know what to do with.

Good news for that, since the preferred method of expansion in the game is to steal entire villages. This is known as “chiefing” … which as my word processor advises me all the time: is a word that doesn’t exist!

The process is quite simple. You need to:

  • Bring your academy to level 20
  • Make sure there is an available slot for expansion in your village
  • Research “senator/chief” in your academy
  • Build one in your residence/palace.

Expensive? Yes!

Fun? You’d better believe it.

The only problem with the process is if you chief that belongs to your alliances’ farm list, once you get the village you’re going to continue getting farmed. There are few things that can be done to make the process an easy one.

1. Don’t defend the village

Simple! Once you get the village, don’t put troops in it. Your “friend” in the travian alliance are more than likely unaware of your chiefing and are still raiding the village because it’s on their farm list.

By removing your troops from the village you give them time to remove the village from their farm list once you have sent out a mass message to the alliance asking them to do so.

2. Make a Nice Travian In-Game Message

There is nothing more annoying than someone sending you a message with coordinates, and then you have to:

  1. remember them…
  2. type them into the map screen

This 2-Step process is harrowing, especially if you’re using an iPad/iPhone to play the game. I see this time and time again. Just last night:

chiefing

How the hell am I going to remember those coordinates if I’m talking on the phone while sitting on the bus on the way home from work? I won’t…. and so playing Travian becomes something that requires excessive mental energy to play… well, not Travian’s fault. It’s the sender who sent the coordinates.

A better way is to link the village by inputting the coordinates in the message so that when someone gets your mass message, all they have to do is click on the “in message hyperlink” and check to see if your village is on their farm list:

chiefing message

That blurred green in the message is actually I hyperlink.

Much easier :-)

Travian Alliances – The Power of Reinforcements

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

So as many of you know, my USX Gaul account is a peaceful… relaxing account… I make sure I raid the roster and scout the roster every now and then to make sure anyone who every could rise to power in my area… doesn’t. To learn more about how this process works, read about it here.

The Invitation

A few weeks ago, a player asked if I would join their alliance. Basically they want reinforcements that have more than 1 village. Haha. Since I’m just a peasant, as you can see in the picture on the right, I said yes of course!travian reinforcements

And so our interesting relationship has begun with an incident involving reinforcements to be sent to a “friend” in need. Since I’m playing Travian on my own, I don’t have much time to respond to messages… or participate in the alliance…

The Reinforcements Dilemma (Reins)

Ok, I do have time to participate, but I don’t want to. Because a few days ago I got the following message:

My friend,
I have given you the power of defense admiral.Hope you justify your position.

Okay… whatever that means. I’m the reinforcement general now. Just great.

Wasn’t too sure how I was going to justify it, until a “call for sending reinforcements” a fellow alliance member came. Now before you ever send your precious troops to help out a “player in need”, first ask yourself the question: Does this player want my help?

Because when I looked at the player’s profile I discovered 3 things:

  1. He Was Being Farmed
  2. The farmer was getting a lot of resources
  3. Players Sent Reinforcements

1. He Was Being Farmed

I don’t have a single Travian friend who gets farmed consistently. Sure, one raid here, one raid there… it’s part of the game. That’s the way it works. But consistent farming doesn’t happen because attacks don’t get a single resource of mine. Ever.

Don’t protect farms. Farm them.

2. The Farmer Raided Over 50K Resources

This was the part that really got me worried. Other members of the alliance were sending troops to a player, but the player wasn’t even spending down his own resources to build more troops.

IT TAKES 3 clicks!!! Yeah, it’s not like building troops is so time intensive. Enter barracks… click brackets… click train.

3. Players Sent Reinforcements (Reins)

Why would you send troops to a farm? The person who is being farmed is basically sending the message that: “I don’t want to play Travian more than 1hr/day” and “if you send troops to my village I won’t feed them (because the resource will probably be raided).

I can’t want to find out what happens with the next MM they send out… this one was a blast. I replied to the MM requesting reins with what was wrong with their request.

The response I got:

reinforcements travian

Groan. Could have included a little bit about, “pull back and send forth offensive troops” but oh well.

Travian Catapult Attacks: How NOT to Do it

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

So I have a few accounts, one of them is on USX. I’m not doing really well, but I’m the only person on that travian account… no duals. It’s like, my “private account”… actually more like a test account, to see if playing Gaul is actually fun.

Turns out, the answer to this is: it depends, because…

Last night, I made a mistake (who doesn’t?): I sent an attack to a village without faking all of the other villages belonging to that player and in so doing, get to say “bye bye” to a good chunk of my farming resources:catapult attacksSo the lesson here is that when you’re attacking someone who has a few villages, it’s always best to:

  • Fake catapult attack all the other villages
  • Make sure all the fake catapult attacks arrive at the same time
  • Probably a good idea to have scouted all the villages as well (unless you’re planning on sending the catapult clearing wave to a village you did not scout)

The attack is a little bit interesting since I did send a catapult clearing wave to get rid of the troops that were in the village… but my goal, at least initially was to make a farm out of the village.. not to say “goodbye” almost 1600 troops. Oh well.

I’m not sure why, but this season of USX has been extremely boring… maybe because I’ve gone out on my own, or maybe because there are less than 4000 players on the server. Travian is just not quite as popular as it used to be, and I think I know why… but that’s subject for another blog post.

Catapults always make things a little more interesting… only in this case I didn’t use them!

Fixing My Village: The Mistakes Done and Their Solutions

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

mistakes done

Fixing My Village

There have been a lot of things in the past that has caused me lots of problem in Travian. If you have been following this blog, you would know the problems I have faced such as the crop shortage problem, the constant raids, and even the stalker problems which brought destructive attacks in my village. The economy of my Travian was also at possibly it’s worst state ever which caused problem after problem after problem. I know these are all results of crucial mistakes done and I am to blame for them

I do admit, I made poor decisions. Hey, I’m not much of an expert yet but I am trying my best to learn the game and understand it well. This way, I can make sure that I’m on the right track and to be honest, I have never gone this far ever before. So I’m actually proud of the things that I have achieved. If ever I start a new server over again, I’m pretty sure my progress will be faster since I have learned a lot from my experiences in this server.

But now, I’m on the process of getting my village back on track. The mistakes done won’t hold me back from getting my village back to a good condition. The raids have cooled down, I have dealt with the stalker and my resources are well protected with my 3 crannies so my worries about raids are no longer that scary.

Step by Step Process – Mistakes Done and Solutionsmistakes done

Here, I’d outline the mistakes that I have made and the solution that must be done to get things back on track. I’m hoping that this mistake list will help you guys not make the same mistakes I’ve done.

  • Keeping resource fields behind – This mistake done is one mortal sin if you ask me and trust me, it’s one you wouldn’t want to make. You can take the tip I gave you yesterday which I am now doing.  I’m on the process of applying it and my resource fields are now looking good.
  • Not investing on defenses – Of all of the mistakes done, this is one of the biggest. Beginners and “small time” players are the usual targets of raids. They are the ones who usually end up as farms. So as early as the beginner’s protection period, invest your time and resources of building up defenses. Protect your resources as much as possible. When you’re continuously raided and the enemy raids are successful, they will see that you have poor defenses and you can be sure that with the loots they can take from you, they will keep coming back. Once they do, it will be very difficult for you to get back up since you will no longer have the resources you need to build up resources. In other words, don’t wait for things to be too late before you start to realize what should be done.
  • Making enemies – If you’re a player who is still not capable of building an army in a short period of time, DO NOT invest a lot of time to build a big army and attack a big player. As tempting as it can get, try to avoid revenge on a player you know can create a big army in just a day or two while it takes you more than a week to top his troops. A mistake done like this is a very bad decision and you will end up making an unnecessary enemy. Not unless you are capable of keeping those troops in great number each day, don’t piss off a big player. You will be defeated before you can even counter his attacks.
  • Staying idle – Sometimes when you see that you have done a lot already in your account, you could feel content with the progress you’ve made which in turn causes you to take time to chill and relax. It can be very tempting but remember, the big players are not stopping and so should you. You may think you’re good enough but you’re not. As long as there is room for improvement and there can still be upgrades to be done, do it. When there’s nothing else you can upgrade in the village, then build a second one. Never let yourself be idle. You may relax now but once you’ve gained frequent raiders, you may not be able to relax anymore. Tendency, you’ll just give up hope. Mistake done like this could be irreversible so as early as you can, solve it!

Learn Your Way Through

It’s natural to make mistakes, we’re not perfect after all. But, be sure that you take action immediately. There are mistakes done that if you dwell in can be beyond repair. Do your best and learn your way through the game. There will always be a way to make things better. You just have to find it, solve the problem, get better.

How Not To “Fake (FAIL) it Till You Make it” in Travian with Oasis (Bonus: And a Pro-Tip)

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

Hey travian gamers, since I don’t post on the weekends Elvis has asked that I introduce him so he can share some love with the blog. You can read all about him here.

The following is a post by Elvis…

My Travianistic Morning – Just Out of Bed!

No matter how bad of a night’s sleep I get, the morning always excited me because it’s that time of day that I get to log into my Travian account and spend resources on anything I want. I can:

  1. Build TONS of troops
  2. Host a Party
  3. Level up my Residence

Sometimes I can do all three of these.

First I host a party, then I build troops, but I don’t use all my resources, then I level up my residence or transfer resources to another village to do the same.

The Travian Oasis Fail – What Not To Do

But today, was different, as I was looking for a good oasis to use up those (17x) cages I just plundered with my hero, I saw this:

oasis

As you can see, here we have an oasis that hasn’t been occupied for some time, as it’s inhabited by animals (literally). That’s fine. But in the oasis’ reports section there are 3 attacks in the same minute… that have red swords! Each of these attacks looks like this:

go-oasis-failWhat is the point of faking an oasis that is owned by nature?

I have no idea but I’m hoping someone is going to slap me across the face and tell me to wake up and realize what is happening in this oasis is indeed normal… because I have no idea.

Going on to the second part of this post…

How to Know You’re Doing Things Right in Travian

Right, so there are a few litmus tests that you can do to see if you are on the right track with your quest to avoid getting raided. Put differently, here is how you know it’s time to demolish your crannies so you can build a second warehouse or granary:

– If when you login each morning there are no “during the night” attacks on your village.

I’m not referring to a random raid where someone plunders your village with 1000 ECs sent without first scouting. I’m talking about a few raids where you’re losing resources and other players think they can raid you. That’s the problem: They know they can get away with it.

Travian is all about being the bully that bullies all the other players. Of course you don’t want to make a personal enemy out of an egotistical account ranked #13 who feels its their mission to “teach you a lesson” but you do want to be raiding very regularly.

I’m Gaul, and I have:

  • 4 Farm lists. I think everyone on the map that is smaller than me, is on that farm list.
  • 4 Farm lists that get used at least 3x each every day.

This is the idea… use your farm lists every day. This accomplishes 2 things:

  1. Of course you get more resources. But more importantly,
  2. You make it very difficult for players in your SW/SE/NW/NE area to grow into a formidable threat.

That #2 is really important. Don’t worry about losing a few TTs when you raid someone.. that’s not the point. The point is you’re destroying their pitiful parties of troops so that they don’t grow into a large force that is out of your control and poses an actual threat.

Travian Battle: Troop Research and Strategy

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

troop researchTroop Research

One major way to grow in Travian to research new troops. You really can’t just settle for the only troop available for you since you will need troops doing specific tasks to succeed in every battle you wish to send them in. So you will need to do troop research and build more. Now, each tribe has their own different types of troops but one thing for sure is that they are all the same in the way that each tribe can have a specific troop for either cavalry or infantry. There are troops that are good at defense, there are those that are better at offense. There are troops that can do specific tasks like the ones that can break a village wall. You would want to gain advantages so you can win over your enemy.

Using these troops to device a strategy is a complicated topic. Usually, the best way to learn these strategies is to have them tried out yourself and discover the best way for you to succeed. You can do research online and check for tips but I strongly recommend you to take this time and relax. You may not be an expert yet, I know I’m not, so don’t expect that you can come up with a clever strategy that you can immediately win. Don’t be afraid to start humble and learn your way through.

The Academy

To do troop research, you will need an academy. There are certain prerequisites for every troop and some will require you to build not just an academy but other buildings as well. Since I’m Gaul, I’ll be using Gail troops as an example and look at what are the things you need to learn for troop research.

troop research

These is a screenshot from my academy. As you can see, there are requirements that need to be present before you can start researching a certain troop. I already have the requirements needed to research the Swordsman. Some troops require a Smithy or a Workshop but it’s not limited to that. Some troops from other tribes could require other building such as a Blacksmith, Horse Drinking Pool and others. It depends on what troop you’re going to research and what tribe you have. Now, it’s important that you know which ones you might need to prioritize. You wouldn’t want to waste time and resources on troops that are not that necessary yet. Although, the aim is to have all the troops. Well, the more the merrier and the more troops you have, the more complex your army could be. Troop research will help you expand the capabilities of your army. It well then be much more easier to device a battle strategy since you have the troops you need to make every battle a success.

Travian Tribes

The Gaul tribe is best at defense so most of their troops are excellent defenders. Like the Druidrider who is the fastest defensive unit in the game. Even the basic Gaul troop which is the Phalanx is a very valuable defender even though his attack power is minimal. So for troop research, work on the troops that will be needed to compensate for what your tribe is less capable at doing.

The Roman tribe is equally good at defense and offense so you can expect their troops to have equally good attackers and defenders. Romans are considered elite and their troops are individually strong. Although, the downside to them is that they are only good in quality and not in quantity because they are expensive and takes a lot of time to produce. But in battle, you don’t just need quality but also quantity. It’s hard to win over an enemy when you are greatly outnumbered. Troop research for Romans should be done to expand the number of troops you can build.

The Teutons are the best raiders in the game. Although, Teutons are very poor at defense. There are only a few troops in the Teuton tribe that are capable of defense so troop research on defense troops and to start building them is important.

Army Building

I am only starting troop research and right now, the idea is to get troops that will be used for raiding. Since you can’t avoid other players to raid you, you will need troops that could counter an enemy’s attack. So now, I have researched Pathfinders and have started building them. They are scouts. You will need scouts to know if there are other enemy scouts in your village. Also, I’ll be then working on getting Theutates Thunders because I’ll be needing them to raid villages. But I have to get my Smithy to level 3 first before I can research these troops.

Most likely if you are starting troop research, prioritize a powerful moving troop and scouts. They will be the most needed at first. So if you’re Gaul, start with Pathfinders and Theutates Thunders. If you’re Roman, you can start with Equites Legati and Equites Imperatoris. If you’re Teutons, you can expect your basic troop to be good at raiding already since Teutons are best at it. But, Teutons are poor at defense so you can build Scouts and maybe a troop that will be good at defense.

This is an overview of how you can research and build new troops. The best strategy is still the one you device on your own and you’ve been able to come up from the learnings you gained through your experiences. Don’t worry about rough starts but be sure to be wise enough to avoid major downfalls.

Good luck!

Travian Hero Attributes: What to Prioritize When Distributing Them?

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

hero attributesThe Hero

One of the valuable things your hero gets when he comes back from an adventure is experience. It’s not just the resources, the items or any other thing your hero can get when he goes to an adventure. The more the experience level of your hero increases, the more kill your hero can make. So if you want your hero to be the conqueror you wish him to be, then sending him on adventures one after another will increase his experience. Send him to adventures and battles. Don’t worry about your hero dying because he will still get experience and earn hero attributes points. Take note also that reviving a hero is fairly cheap and is quick too. Reviving a hero is even more practical than waiting for his health to boost back up but if you have ointments, you could use them as well. Just don’t hesitate to send your hero to wherever he can get experience. Every time you can earn an experience level, you can add to your hero attributes points.

Hero Attributes

Points for your hero attributes are separated into four:

  • Fighting Strength – The points you put into this ability will increase the attack and defense value of your hero. But do take note, your hero count as cavalry in case he is equipped with a horse and as infantry in case he is not equipped with a horse.
  • Off Bonus – The points put into this ability for your hero will  increase the attack value of the whole army by 0.2% per point (maximum of 20%). Remember though, that the army will only receive the bonus when they are attacking along with the hero.
  • Def Bonus – The points you put into this ability will increase the defense value of your whole army (This means all own troops defending. The village where they come from is unimportant.) by 0.2% per point (maximum of 20%) Like the off bonus, this will only apply if your hero is with your troops.
  • Resources – The points you put into this ability will increase the resource output of the village where the Hero is located.

The hero attributes points your hero receives when his experience level increases can be distributed to these four depending on where you’d like to add the points. Now, this will be another part that you need to carefully think about. Increasing a hero’s attribute points may not come that easy so you would want to make sure that the points are distributed depending on where you need them.

Book of WisdomTravian_-_Book_of_Wisdom

What if you had a sudden change in strategy and the hero attributes points you have earned and distributed will not be very helpful to you anymore? Can you reset these points and redistribute them?

Fortunately, the answer is a big YES!

You will need a tool to do that. This tool will reset the hero attributes points your hero has earned and will allow you to redistribute them depending on your need.

Where can you get this Book of Wisdom, you ask?

Simple. There are two ways. If you are lucky enough, you can find it in adventures. Sometimes, lost things could be found in adventures such as hero items, silver and troops. Well, this is one of the many things your hero can pick up from adventures. But if you cannot find one, then your second option is to buy one from an auction. There are plenty of things you can find in auctions that you could just buy with silver. Some valuable items may be high costing but a Book of Wisdom should come in cheaply so that’s not a problem.

Announcing the Travian Dating Site OR Travian AU2 Stalking?!? – Funny Vibrator Story

11287415_841871069194059_976693298_nIntroduction

Online games are fun, aren’t they? Not only do they provide entertainment but they help us make friends. What’s great about it is that you get to meet people in different parts of the world. I remember the time when I was still in high school and I played Gaia Online a lot. I got to meet there a friend from France. We chat a lot and exchanged interesting things about ourselves and our cultures. We got to be friends for a while and of all, she was the best friend I made online. For some, it’s fun to find someone from the same country.

When you find someone from the same country, you tend to become friends easier. You talk and share personal things with each other. You could even team up with that person if the game allows it. It’s always fun to be making friends but sometimes, you can’t avoid meeting a creep.

Meeting Someone

I was going about my usual routine in Travian today. I checked reports, sent my hero on adventures, upgraded buildings, upgraded resource fields and training troops. I check messages if there are any and these past few days, I had been exchanging messages with someone. His first message was asking me where country I’m from. He noticed my username and village name was in our native language so he hunched that we were from the same country. So, I told him where I’m from and it was all exciting knowing that we were from the same country. We continued to exchange messages asking personal things about each other since it’s not that of a big deal in our culture to immediately ask personal questions to someone you’ve just met. He asked from which part of the country I was from. It would’ve been fun if we were not far from each other. I know a lot of people from Clash of Clans who flock into one clan because they’re from the same city and they set up meet ups so they can meet each other personally. But apparently, our places were a plane ride away so it’s pretty far.

The Awkward Part

It was all nice and friendly at first. He even apologized for attacking my village twice. So I guess that’s one less enemy. But then, he asked of my age. Of course, I didn’t gave it to him immediately. I told him I was shy. By the way, I know he’s a “he” since his name included an indication of his gender. So he told me how old he was and in return, I told him mine. He lied to me about his age because he thought I’m already old since I said I’m shy about my age.

The next message then shocked me…

He was asking for my number. He asked for my Viber account. Here in our country, it’s like a texting/chatting app. To ask for someone’s Viber account means to ask for that person’s number. I know it could sound weird because it sounds similar to a vibrator and if I wasn’t concentrating, I would’ve misread it since I don’t use that app. So when I read that message, I really didn’t know how to respond. My brain was still processing the thought that this guy could be flirting with me. The next message confirmed that since it’s content was asking me if I have a boyfriend. He was also asking for my personal Facebook account. It’s weird. It’s creepy. I didn’t know how to respond.

Here’s some screenshots of our conversations:

"ano pala age mo and may viber account kaba?" Translation: what's your age and do you have a viber account? **To ask for a viber account is to ask for a person's number
“ano pala age mo and may viber account kaba?”
Translation: what’s your age and do you have a viber account?
**To ask for a viber account is to ask for a person’s number
5
“Aw haha huli ka! 34 lang ako hehehe ** yrs tanda ko sayu, may bf kaba? Sorry ha matanong” Translation: Oh haha got ya! I’m only 34 hehehe I’m only ** yrs older than you. Do you have a bf? Sorry I’m asking so much questions.

After some thinking, I responded by showing him I was a bit upset that he lied to me about his age because I was being honest. I think he thought I was trying to be cute and girly so he was kidding by telling me that if I no longer reply to his messages, he’d attack me. I’m trying my best to keep it cool. I don’t want him to think I’m interested. I’m even seriously thinking of toying with him. (Yes, I can be a bit evil.)

The Wait

I’ll try to keep up with his “flirtiness” and try to see how this will end up. I can decide to toy with him and make him think I’m interested. I could also just completely shut him out. The only advantage I see with this is that if I can manipulate him, I can get him to give me resources and troops. Might as well use it for my advantage, don’t you think?

I don’t know if any of you guys have experienced the same thing but today went a little weird for me. I also don’t know if this happens a lot on Travian. Maybe with female players, it could happen. Guys would drool over gamer girls so I guess that’s not to wonder.

So, what do you guys think?

Travian Update: Village Raids and Gaul Trapper

facebooktwitterredditlinkedinmailfacebooktwitterredditlinkedinmail

Talk about perfect timing. It seems like events don’t want me to become an offensive player. I did talk about finally doing attacks in my article yesterday. It was not mean to be as a raid  arrived at the perfect time and got all my troops killed. So you can expect that the 4 Phalanxes that I trained yesterday all died.

trav

To make things worse, my hero died (again!). Her health was on full when I sent her on a dangerous adventure so I don’t know what went wrong. Maybe it was too much for my hero. I guess I should cease for the moment in sending my hero on dangerous adventures. Not until I boost her experience level a bit, only then will I resume on sending her back. It’s costing me much on the resources already on reviving her. It’s not cheap, you know.

Today, I’m not upgrading anything in my village. I spent all of them in training troops and I was able to train 7. I would need 3 more and then I can try doing an attack. My trapper is also ready. I created 3 traps to set up in my village. It’s my first time using it so I’ll try to see if it works effectively in trapping enemies.

I have been checking out more articles from Dan T. Massicotte and I found one interesting. It’s an article about raiding players. I guess if you want to be an offensive player, the Teutons is the best tribe of choice. Their troops are cheap to train and are fast moving. They can also carry more load. They are really good in terms of raiding. Although you can pretty much do the same with other tribes but there are just others who have the edge.

I have to use the advantage my tribe has. It’s the most effective way of playing for me. I just want to know if I can use the trapped enemies for my own. I still have to search on that. Though, it would be nice if I can torture them. Just kidding… …or not.

Anyway, I will keep update on the progress I’m making. I’ll also let you guys know how the trapper worked for me. I have the feeling that upgrading my trapper and be able to effectively use it will help me reduce the number of raids coming into my village. I will no longer be a farm. Oh, this is great! This is absolutely exciting. I can’t wait to see how my enemies will slowly decrease in number since they would be trapped in my village. Now, I’m really glad I went for Gauls. This is very handy and I can finally get rid of farmers. They will so regret being my enemy.
